Description
The Rose Breasted Cockatoo is relatively quiet and has a very outgoing personality with a good ability to mimic human speech
Physical Description: Rose-breasted Cockatoos are beautiful pet bird that are easily recognized by their pink and grey coloration. Their crest and top of the head is generally a lighter pink than the rest of the body, though some individuals have a crest that is practically white. Their chest, stomach, and portions of the underside of the wings are pink. Everything else is a pale grey.
Average Lifespan: 20 – 30 years
Sexing: The sexes differ only in eye color, though all juvenile birds will appear to be female. After they have reached maturity (typically around 5 years of age) the females will retain a brown iris, while the males will turn almost black. The darker the iris, the more likely it is to be male.
Origin: Central Australia Trainability: Domestic hand-fed babies make excellent pets for dedicated caregivers. Arguably, these parrots are among the most affectionate animals on the planet! Rose-breasted cockatoos do best in a quiet, subdued environment. Although the Rose-breasted Cockatoo is slightly more independent than the other Cockatoos, they still need a lot of attention. If you are unable to devote at least 2 hours of quality time with your parrot each day, then a Rose-Breasted Cockatoo is not for you. They are extremely playful and acrobatic. Anything and everything is a toy to them – especially if you don’t want them to have it. For this reason, we recommend a large variety of toys and plenty of supervision during play time. They can learn to speak, but are often difficult to understand. Rose-breasted Cockatoos will typically develop a small vocabulary of 5 or 6 of their favorite words and phrases.
Loudness: Cockatoos are among the loudest of the parrot species, so if you’re sensitive to noise we would suggest looking into other types of parrots. While the Rose-breasted Cockatoo isn’t as loud as some of the other Cockatoos, they are still not apartment pets.
Pricing: Rose-breasted Cockatoos can be fairly expensive birds, depending on your budget. Feel free to call our store at (954) 725-0088 for pricing and availability.
