Description
Physical Description:
Greencheek Conures are tiny little birds, and make great pets for kids and adults alike. They come in a variety of colors and mutations. The Pineapple Greencheek mutation is a beautiful little bird with all the colors of, well, a pineapple. They have a beautiful red scalloped chest which sets them apart from the green and black Greencheek conures. As well, we find this mutation to be extraordinarily sociable. This is an excellent apartment bird as they are very quiet, unlike most conures. Average Lifespan: 15 – 20 years
Sexing: Sexing these birds requires a DNA test, as they are not sexually dimorphic and you cannot tell the sex just by looking at them.
Origin: South America (Specifically, Brazil)
Trainability: Domestic hand-fed babies make excellent pets. Greencheek Conures are spunky little birds with BIG personalities. They are playful, affectionate, and intelligent. Many enjoy playing with balls and bells, and will sometimes roll onto their backs and play with their feet like a baby. They are not known for being good talkers, though most will learn a word or two. They will often pick up on key words that get them what they want, such as the name of a favorite food or person. An important thing to remember about Greencheek Conures is that their preening glands are oil-based. This means that they are great for people with allergies because they do not put off nearly as much dust as powder-based birds.
Loudness: Greencheek Conures are very quiet birds and are ideal for apartment living. They have soft, gravelly voices that make it hard to hear them even when they are trying to be heard!
